Windsor grew about five-fold in the 1980s, and a large part of the town was built during that boom and the decade after. Builders on those subdivisions put up whatever gutters were standard at the time, usually narrow sectional aluminum hung on spikes, and most of those homes are now well past thirty years old. That's about the age when the original gutters start giving up all at once: seams that drip in every storm, spikes backing out of the fascia, paint flaking off the trough. Windsor sits in the Russian River valley, with long, dry summers, and that heat dries out sealant and fades paint faster than it would closer to the coast. By the first November storm, the weak spots are already waiting.

Most of our Windsor work is swapping those original gutters for seamless ones that fit the roof properly. Each new run is formed in one piece on site; the seamless gutter installation page shows the whole process. We also add guards, fix leaks and move downspouts that drain in the wrong place. Estimates cost nothing, and you'll have the price in writing before any work gets scheduled. A typical Windsor job is one crew, one day.

Builder-Grade Gutters on 1980s and 90s Homes

Tract homes from that era usually have the same gutter setup. They're often 5-inch sectional aluminum, joined every 10 feet, hung on spikes and ferrules that loosen a little more each winter. Downspouts are usually the small 2x3-inch size, one per corner, and many of them drain onto the soil right next to the foundation. Over thirty-plus years the paint chalks off, the sealant dries out and the gutters start to sag between spikes. Patching one seam at a time rarely keeps up. On most of these houses, a complete gutter replacement, using seamless runs, hidden hangers and bigger downspouts, fixes every problem at once, and the long, simple rooflines common in Windsor subdivisions keep the job quick, often under a day. It's also a good moment to check the fascia boards, since thirty years of drips can leave soft spots behind the old gutter.

Summer Heat, Winter Storms

Windsor sees a wide swing between seasons. Summer afternoons in the valley regularly climb into the 90s, and gutters facing south and west bake in full sun for months. Heat works on gutters in quieter ways than rain does: sealant shrinks and cracks, vinyl gets brittle, and aluminum expands and contracts every day, which slowly loosens fasteners. Then winter brings steady rain off the coast, and a joint that cracked during a heat wave starts leaking in the first real storm. Seamless aluminum handles that cycle better than anything else at this price, since there are so few joints to fail, and hidden hangers stay tight where spikes work loose. Homes up the road in Healdsburg deal with even more heat, and the same choices hold up there. At corners and outlets, we use a sealant made to stay flexible through long, hot summers.
