Sebastopol is west county, and its gutters live under trees. Redwoods and bay trees crowd the roads heading toward the coast, oaks fill in the hills, and a lot of yards still have a few fruit trees left over from the orchards that once covered this part of the county. All of that ends up in the gutters: needles, leaves, blossoms in spring and small fruit in summer. Then the rain comes. West county gets more of it than the Santa Rosa side, and on the low eastern edge of town, the soil by the creeks can stay soggy for weeks. A gutter that's clogged or too small sends that water straight down onto soil that's already full, and that's how crawl spaces stay damp all winter.

Most of our Sebastopol work is fitting gutters that can handle tree cover. Gutter guards keep needles and leaves out of the trough, and a gutter cleaning before the rain and again in spring keeps everything draining. We also install new seamless gutters and fix leaks. Every estimate costs nothing and comes on paper, so you can compare options at your own pace. If you're not sure whether guards are worth it for your trees, we'll tell you plainly.

Needles, Blossoms and Old Fruit Trees

Redwood needles are the toughest debris most Sebastopol gutters face. They're fine and short, they slip through basic screens, and they pack into a dense mat that holds water. Fruit trees add a seasonal layer: spring blossoms that clog outlets, then leaves and the odd plum or apple that rots in the trough by fall. On homes with this kind of cover, we recommend stainless micro-mesh guards over 6-inch seamless gutters, since fine mesh is the only guard that reliably stops redwood needles. Even guarded gutters here need a rinse once or twice a year, because fine debris settles on top. If you live farther out toward Guerneville, where the redwoods are even thicker, the same setup applies and the cleaning schedule usually tightens up. Homes in town with only one or two trees nearby can often skip guards and stick with a yearly cleaning.

Wet Ground on the East Side of Town

The eastern edge of Sebastopol sits low, near the wetlands and the small creeks that feed them, and during a rainy stretch that ground can stay saturated for weeks. On those lots, where the downspouts send water matters as much as the gutters themselves. A downspout that drains next to the house just adds to water the soil can't absorb, and it ends up under the house or against the foundation. The fix is longer downspout extensions, outlets moved away from low spots and tie-ins to existing drain lines that carry water off the property. Every option is laid out under downspouts and drainage. On the higher west side of town, drainage is usually easier, but steep driveways and slopes still need downspouts pointed the right way. On the estimate visit, we trace where each downspout's water goes today.
